Culinary Product Photography

Technical Certificate · 18 credit hours · 2 semesters · Division of Food, Fermentation and Culinary Production

Food Photography Bay.

Studio photography of prepared food for packaging, menu, and advertising use. Lighting for reflective and matte surfaces, food styling, stand-in construction, and technique for gelatinous, custard, and suspension products, which do not hold under continuous light. Session scheduling accounts for this; practicum shoots for those product categories are completed within the first ninety minutes of the studio block.

Students supply their own camera body. Acceptable models are listed in the program handbook. A refundable equipment deposit is required for use of studio lighting and grip equipment.

Graduates

Custard does not hold under a hot light, and nobody tells you until it collapses on set. PHO 130 told me, and made me build a stand-in. That one lesson pays my studio rent.
