Livestock Diversion Performance

Protection of dismounted riders at rodeo and livestock events. Bull behavior and reading of an animal's intent, positioning and angles of approach, the barrel, distraction and redirection technique, evasion and fall technique, injury prevention, and coordination with mounted pickup personnel.

The performance component — makeup, costume, and crowd work between events — is taught by the Applied Clowning faculty. The animal component is taught by the Division of Animal and Agricultural Sciences. The two components are not interchangeable and students complete both.

Live-animal instruction is conducted at a cooperating facility in Carroll County. Students must be 18. A physical examination and a signed acknowledgment of risk are required and the acknowledgment is not a waiver of the College's obligations.

Injury is a normal feature of this occupation. Applicants are asked to consider that before enrolling and to discuss it with the instructor of record, who will describe his own.

Facilities and instruction

Instruction is delivered in the facilities of the Division of Performance and Guest Services. Additional photographs are collected at Campus photographs.
