Chimney and Solid Fuel Appliance Sweeping

Inspection, sweeping, and service of chimneys, wood stoves, and pellet appliances. Level One and Level Two inspection procedure, creosote classification, flue liner assessment, draft testing, cap and crown repair, and carbon monoxide safety.

Prepares students for Chimney Safety Institute of America certification. Requires comfort at height and in confined spaces, and the physical capacity to work from a roof in cold weather, which is when the work occurs.

Approximately 40 percent of the instructional hours are on a roof.

Facilities and instruction

Instruction is delivered in the facilities of the Division of Building, Structures and Site Services. Additional photographs are collected at Campus photographs.
