Identification, measurement, and remediation of persistent odor in residential and commercial structures. Olfactometry and the dilution-to-threshold method, panel screening and the calibration of the assessor's own nose, source isolation, HVAC and cavity investigation, absorbed odor in porous materials, ozone and hydroxyl treatment and their limitations, and sealing.

Assessors are calibrated against reference standards at the start of each session and may not assess while experiencing any upper respiratory condition. Students who cannot pass the n-butanol screening are not admitted; this is determined in the first week and the fee is refunded in full.

The Division's standard exclusion protocol applies. An odor with no identifiable source is recorded as an odor with no identifiable source.

Facilities and instruction

Instruction is delivered in the facilities of the Division of Anomalous Property and Nonstandard Conditions. Additional photographs are collected at Campus photographs.
