Room Numbering and Wayfinding Conventions

The Corliss Pike building was numbered as a retail store and the scheme was retained on acquisition in 1994. It is not intuitive and the following is provided for staff and for visitors who have been given a room number and cannot find it. Printed wayfinding in the corridors reflects the numbering at acquisition and has not been updated to reflect subdivisions or reserved ranges; where a sign references a room that does not match a physical door, the explanation is usually in the list below.

• Wing A numbers ascend from the main entrance, east to west, odd and even mixed. Administrative suites carry a letter suffix (A-118, A-118A, A-118B) reflecting subdivision after 1994.
• Wing B numbers descend from the west, because the store’s stockroom numbering ran toward the loading dock and was retained.
• There is no Room A-113. The number was not assigned. The College does not know why, and the 1994 conversion drawings do not show it.
• Wings C, D, and E were renumbered in 2001 and are internally consistent.
• Wing F rooms are numbered F-101 through F-114. F-109 through F-113 do not exist; the numbers were reserved during the 2013 fit-out for a configuration that was not built.
• Sub-level spaces are lettered, not numbered, and are not shown on the public campus map.
• Rooms in the Shop Building are identified by bay number. Barn Complex B offices are numbered 1 through 4.

Corridor clocks. Wings B and C retain the building’s original synchronized clock system, installed 1971. The system runs approximately four minutes fast. It is not adjusted. Class start and end times are governed by the published schedule and not by the corridor clocks. Faculty are asked to make this clear at the first class meeting, as this is when the question arises. Wings A, D, E, and F do not have corridor clocks; the clock system was not extended when those wings were built out or renumbered.
