Weather Closures

How the decision is made
The decision to close the College, to delay opening, or to cancel evening classes is made by the President or designee on the report of the Facilities Department and the Department of Campus Safety, taking account of campus conditions, county road conditions, and any snow emergency declared by the Tolliver County Sheriff. The decision for day classes is announced by 5:30 a.m.; the decision for evening classes is announced by 2:30 p.m. A delayed opening is ordinarily two hours, and classes that would end before the delayed opening time do not meet.
When the Sheriff declares a Level 3 snow emergency in Tolliver County, the College is closed for the duration of the declaration.
How closures are announced
- DroverAlert is the notification system of record. DroverAlert delivers text and email notification; enrollment is automatic for students and employees using the contact information on file, which may be updated in DroverNet. See Campus Safety.
- A notice is posted on the College website home page for the duration of the closure.
- Closures are carried during morning programming on WDRO-LP 101.3 FM. The station’s signal does not reliably reach the Aviation and Heavy Equipment Annex, and the College does not recommend the station as a means of reaching Annex personnel.
- Closures appear on the Channel 21 Bulletin Board as the rotation permits.
The College does not place closure announcements with commercial broadcast stations. A closure is not posted at News and Notices.
The Annex
A closure announcement applies to both the main campus and the Aviation and Heavy Equipment Annex unless the announcement states otherwise. Conditions at the two locations may differ, and the Annex may be closed separately. DroverAlert is the notification system of record for the Annex; the station signal and Channel 21 do not reliably reach that location. When the Annex is closed, Annex telephone extensions ring at the main campus.
During a closure
When the College is closed, classes do not meet, offices are closed, and scheduled events are cancelled or rescheduled by the sponsoring office. Examinations falling on a closure day are rescheduled by the instructor. Compensation of employees during a closure is governed by the employee handbook.
Employees designated essential personnel in their position descriptions report as scheduled unless directed otherwise. Animal care in Barn Complex B continues on its regular schedule during closures; the barn office extension rings separately from the main building and is reached directly.
