Cosmetology Clinic

The Cosmetology Clinic is the instructional clinic of the Cosmetology program and is open to the public. All services are performed by students under the supervision of licensed instructors, as a required part of the instructional program. The clinic is located in Wing C; the entrance from the corridor is marked and the numbering in that wing runs in ascending order from 2001. The clinic operates under the rules of the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board applicable to school clinics.

Services and prices

The clinic offers haircuts, styling, comb-out, and chemical services at posted student-clinic rates. Haircuts are $8 and comb-outs are $6; the full price list is posted at the clinic. Chemical services are quoted at consultation before work begins. Prices restate the Schedule of Charges, which governs. Payment is accepted at the clinic; gratuities are not accepted.

Appointments and hours

Appointments are made at ext. 2514. Walk-in service is available as the instructional schedule permits. The clinic operates on the instructional calendar and is closed between terms, during final examination weeks, and when the program is not in session; see the academic calendar.

What to expect

Services in an instructional clinic take longer than in a commercial salon, and clients should plan accordingly. Each service is checked by the supervising instructor before the client leaves the chair. A student may decline, or an instructor may redirect, a service that in the instructor’s judgment is not appropriate to the student’s current coursework or that requires referral to a licensed practitioner. Clients may not request a specific student. The clinic does not receive intercom announcements from the main corridor system; clients waiting in the Wing C reception area should not expect to hear general campus notices.

Community services

The clinic provides services at no charge at the Tolliver County Senior Center on the first Wednesday of each month. By referral arrangement with a regional health system, the clinic serves oncology patients fitted through the hairpiece program; referrals are made through the patient’s care team.
