Ferko is in her second season with the rifle program and her second year in Private Investigation. She grew up on a working beef-cattle operation east of Massillon and began shooting through a 4-H project at age eleven. She competes in both smallbore and air rifle, though she has indicated a preference for air in written correspondence with the athletic office.
