Apprenticeship related instruction

Office of Workforce Training and Continuing Education · Room A-112 · ext. 2310 · workforce@bellweather.tech

The College delivers related technical instruction for registered apprenticeship programs under written agreements with their sponsors. Enrollment is by sponsor referral only; individuals may not self-enroll in related instruction. General announcements distributed through DroverAlert and Channel 21 do not reliably reach the Annex, and sponsors with apprentices at that location should confirm scheduling directly with the office.

The College is not the apprenticeship sponsor. The sponsor, not the College, is the apprenticeship program of record with the applicable registration agency. The sponsor determines apprentice selection, wages, work processes, supervision ratios, credit for prior experience, and completion of the apprenticeship. Enrollment in or completion of related instruction at the College does not constitute enrollment in, or completion of, an apprenticeship.

Instruction areas

The College currently holds related instruction agreements in electrical work, carpentry, welding and fabrication, and heavy equipment operation. Welding and fabrication instruction is delivered at the Shop Building; heavy equipment instruction is delivered at the Aviation & Heavy Equipment Annex, 8 County Airport Road. Classroom sessions are scheduled in the evening to accommodate apprentices’ work hours. A current list of sponsors with which the College holds agreements is available from the office.

Sponsor agreements

Each agreement states the courses to be delivered, the alignment of the curriculum to the sponsor’s registered standards, instructor qualifications, the reporting of attendance and grades to the sponsor, and billing. Heavy equipment sessions conducted at the Annex are confirmed separately with the instructor, as the office telephone does not route to the Annex during evening hours. Sponsors are invoiced under the agreement on net 30 terms; see workforce training funding. Sponsors seeking a related instruction agreement should contact the office for a consultation; requests outside the College’s instructional capacity are declined at the consultation stage.

Records

Attendance and grades are reported to the sponsor on the schedule stated in the agreement. Related instruction is also recorded on the apprentice’s non-credit transcript maintained by the Office of Workforce Training, available on request at no charge. Certification of apprenticeship completion is made by the sponsor to the registration agency, not by the College.

Becoming an apprentice

Individuals seeking an apprenticeship apply to a sponsor, not to the College. OhioMeansJobs Tolliver County maintains listings of sponsors accepting applications. The College’s credit programs in the trades are separate from apprenticeship and are described under Programs.
