The Division of Fiber, Textile and Personal Appearance prepares students for employment in cosmetology, hairpiece construction and fitting, costumed character performance, and applied textile embellishment. Division Chair Doreen P. Halquist oversees division programs and instructional operations.

The division's credential offerings include the Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology, the Technical Diploma in Hairpiece Construction, Fitting and Display, and technical certificates in Applied Embellishment and Rhinestone Setting and Costumed Character Suit Operation. The Technical Certificate in Puppet and Articulated Figure Services is pending programmatic accreditor review; that program is not currently enrolling students.

The cosmetology program is delivered through the Wing C cosmetology clinic, a supervised public-service salon where students complete required clock hours under faculty supervision. Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board rules require 1,500 clock hours for licensure as a cosmetologist; the A.A.S. program is structured to fulfill this requirement. Students are responsible for scheduling and completing the Ohio State Board examination; examination and licensure fees are not included in tuition. The A.A.S. in Cosmetology qualifies graduates to sit for the Ohio cosmetology licensure examination; it does not confer a license.

The hairpiece workroom supports the Technical Diploma in Hairpiece Construction, Fitting and Display, where students work with ventilating, blocking, fitting, and display techniques for both fashion and prosthetic applications. Hairpiece and cranial prosthesis work is treated as a technical discipline within the division; students completing this diploma are prepared for employment with theatrical suppliers, medical wig providers, and specialty retail operations. The costume and character-suit shop supports Costumed Character Suit Operation coursework, including pattern fitting, foam fabrication, suit maintenance, and performer safety and cooling protocols for enclosed costume environments.

Faculty include Instructor Georgette Ipple (Cosmetology), Instructor Lorna Petshek (Hairpiece Construction and Fitting), Instructor Milo Ferrante (Costumed Character Performance), and Adjunct Instructor Cassandra Nurre (Applied Embellishment). Program outcome data are published by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and are available through the College's consumer information disclosures.

Programs

Suspended and teach-out programs are not accepting applications. Enrolled students are taught out under the published teach-out plan, available from the Registrar. Programs approved by the Board of Trustees and pending accreditor action are listed separately at Proposed Programs.
