Black Student Alliance

The Black Student Alliance supports Black students at the College through peer connection, academic support partnerships with the Tutoring Center, and cultural programming open to the College community.

History

• Organized in 1994, the year the College moved to the Corliss Pike campus.
• The Alliance’s February speaker series, held during the common hour, has run annually since 2008 and is co-sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students.
• The fall welcome dinner has been held in the Commons after hours since 2017, when the reservation for the original venue was found to recur annually to another user and could not be traced.

Officers, 2026–27

Officer lists are filed with the September recognition renewal; the roster below is as filed with the Office of the Dean of Students.

Camille Otey — President

Second-year student, Cosmetology. Organizes the February speaker series. Speaker travel is booked through the College’s agency of record, as required.

Marcus Tibbs — Vice President

Jobsite Material Security. Coordinates the welcome dinner with the Commons. The after-hours arrangement is renewed by memo each August.

Danae Whitfield-Sarr — Secretary

Plasma and Blood Center Operations. Maintains the Alliance’s archive, which holds the printed program of every February series since 2008.
