The Drover Pantry

The Drover Pantry provides shelf-stable food, and personal and household items as donated, at no charge. It is open to all enrolled students and to College employees. There is no eligibility requirement, no application, and no income documentation. Use of the pantry is recorded by count only, not by name, and is not reported to instructors, to any division, or recorded in any student file. The count is reported in aggregate to the Dean of Students office for inventory and funding purposes only.

Hours

Monday–Thursday 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., and Wednesday 4:30–6:00 p.m., during the fall, spring, and summer terms. When the pantry is not staffed, contact the Office of the Dean of Students, Room A-130, ext. 2140, and access will be arranged the same day. The pantry is closed during the winter closure; students who anticipate needing food over the closure are asked to visit during the last week of instruction, when no limit is applied.

What is stocked

Canned and dry goods, shelf-stable proteins, cereal, shelf-stable milk, baby food and formula as donated, and hygiene products. Refrigerated items are available when donated and are marked with their dates. Visitors take what they need; there is no standard allotment. Reusable bags are provided.

Donations

The pantry accepts unopened, unexpired, shelf-stable food and unopened hygiene products. Drop boxes are located at the pantry and at the library circulation desk. Monetary donations are made through the Bellweather College Foundation, designated to the Drover Pantry fund; the pantry uses monetary donations to purchase what donation patterns leave short, most often proteins and hygiene products. Home-canned and homemade items cannot be accepted.

Students facing food insecurity alongside housing instability or other hardship are asked to contact the Dean of Students, Room A-130, ext. 2140; the resources available, including Foundation emergency assistance grants and county referrals, are described at housing assistance. The Dean of Students can also assist with a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application referral to Tolliver County Job and Family Services.
