Counseling

Room A-138 · Tuesdays and Thursdays · ext. 2138

The College provides counseling at no charge to enrolled students through a contracted licensed provider. Counseling is available in Room A-138 on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Students may schedule up to six sessions per year. Additional sessions, and care outside the provider’s scope, are arranged by referral; the provider maintains a referral list of community practices, including practices that accept Medicaid and offer sliding-scale fees.

Scheduling

Appointments are scheduled at ext. 2138, in person at Room A-138 during posted hours, or through DroverNet. A student may also ask the Office of the Dean of Students, Room A-130, ext. 2140, to arrange a first appointment. No reason is required to schedule, and no referral is needed.

Confidentiality

Counseling sessions are confidential. Counseling records are created and maintained by the provider, not by the College. They are not part of the academic record, are not disclosed to instructors, and are not reported to the Dean of Students. Use of counseling does not appear on a transcript.

Confidentiality has limits, which the counselor explains at the first session. The provider may disclose information where there is an imminent risk of serious harm to the student or to another person; where the law requires a report of suspected abuse or neglect of a minor; or where a court orders disclosure. Within those limits, disclosure is made to the parties necessary and no further.

If you are in crisis

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available at any hour by call or text to 988. On campus, Campus Safety can be reached at ext. 2911 at any staffed hour; see Campus Safety. A student in crisis will be seen without an appointment on a day the provider is on campus, and these visits are not counted against the six sessions.

Related assistance

Counseling is one of the resources available to students without stable housing or facing food insecurity; see housing assistance and the Drover Pantry. Students seeking a disability accommodation related to a mental health condition should contact Disability Services, which is a separate office with a separate process.
