Early Music Consort

Meets: Rehearsals Tuesdays, 4:30 p.m., posted in DroverNet · Adviser: Alonzo Deuff, Associate Professor, Early Music · Organized 1963

The Early Music Consort is the College’s period instrument ensemble. Membership is by audition and is open to students in any program; students in the Early Plucked String Performance program participate as part of their ensemble requirement. The Consort performs on instruments from the Division’s collection and on members’ own instruments.

History

• The Consort has played the commencement processional since at least 1963; programs before that year are not on file.
• The Consort plays at the turn of the Perimeter Course during the Luminary Walk. There is no program and no speaking.
• The Consort’s repertory book is maintained by the director. Pieces are added by vote of the members; no piece has been removed.

Officers, 2026–27

Officer lists are filed with the September recognition renewal; the roster below is as filed with the Office of the Dean of Students.

Edith Krahenbuhl — Principal

Early Plucked String Performance. Plays theorbo. She is the fourth consecutive principal to play theorbo, an instrument the Consort has never been without.

Simon Oberholtzer — Librarian

Welding and Fabrication. Keeps the repertory book. Additions are entered in ink, by vote of the members.

Lydia Fothergill — Manager

Audience Services and Venue Continuity. Manages concert logistics. The spring concert in the Wing E chapel is seated to the chapel’s posted capacity, and no chairs are added.
