Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Omicron Sigma chapter

Beta Omicron Sigma is the College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges. Eligibility requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 after twelve credit hours. Invitations are issued by the Registrar’s office each term; membership is completed by acceptance and payment of the international fee, which is set by the society and not by the College.

History

• Chartered in 1998. The chapter’s induction ceremony is held each March in Drover Court.
• Clock-hour students are not eligible under the society’s international rules. The chapter has petitioned the society on this point twice, in 2015 and 2022. Both petitions were acknowledged.

Officer lists are filed with the September recognition renewal; the roster below is as filed with the Office of the Dean of Students.

Harriet Ollivant — President

Funeral Service Technology. Inducted 2025. Presides at the March induction in Drover Court.

Stanley Burkholder — Vice President of Records

Accessory Structure Consultation. Maintains the eligibility correspondence with the Registrar’s office. Invitations are issued by the Registrar and not by the chapter, a distinction the chapter observes.

Vera Klontz — Historian

Hairpiece Construction, Fitting and Display. Keeps the chapter’s file, in which the two petitions to the international society are retained with their acknowledgments.
