Student Funeral Directors Association

The Student Funeral Directors Association serves students in the Division of Funerary and Interment Services. Programming includes licensure preparation, practitioner speakers, and professional conduct topics. Membership is open to students in any Division program.

History

• Organized in 1968 at the Ansel Street campus. The Association is one of two organizations with continuous recognition since before the move to Corliss Pike.
• Members assist the Division with the April Memorial Service under faculty supervision. The Association treats this assistance as its principal service commitment of the year.
• Speakers in the practitioner series are asked to allow time for questions. The question period routinely exceeds the presentation.

Officer lists are filed with the September recognition renewal; the roster below is as filed with the Office of the Dean of Students.

Eleanor Bontrager — President

Funeral Service Technology. Coordinates the speaker series. Speakers receive the Association’s written thanks, and the letters are copied to the Division file.

Vincent Halberd — Vice President

Funeral Service Technology. Leads the examination review sessions. Review materials follow the current Board content outline and are retired when the outline changes.

Grace Mumaw — Secretary

Cemetery Grounds and Monument Services. Records the minutes. The Association’s minute books are complete from 1968; the 1974 volume is water-damaged but legible.
