Sylvia Hurd-Nachtel has been with the Division since 2012. She is a Certified Teacher of the Society of American Fight Directors. Prior to joining BCAT she worked fourteen years in regional theatre as a fight captain and combat choreographer.
She teaches Unarmed Stage Combat (STG 120), Sword and Shield, Polearm (STG 210), and Creature and Non-Human Character Combat (STG 240). The curriculum includes weapon inspection and handling protocols, choreography notation, performer safety responsibilities, and the movement and spatial adaptations required for non-human character roles.
Ms. Hurd-Nachtel maintains her SAFD Certified Teacher status through the continuing education and skills verification requirements of that certification. She serves as the Division's point of contact for weapon storage and pre-class inspection procedures.
